Lesson of courage: Afghan War veterans meet with students of L.N. Gumilyov ENU

Today, on the eve of the 36th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, a lesson of courage "Afghanistan reminds of itself years later" was held for students of the L. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The youth learned about the events of those years: how Soviet troops entered Afghanistan and how their withdrawal took place, as well as about fellow countrymen who fulfilled their international duty with honor and dignity.
During the meeting, the students heard stories from living witnesses of the war about combat operations, loyalty to the military oath, honor and courage of soldiers. The veterans shared their memories of the hardships of service, everyday combat and the difficulties they had to face. They talked about how they felt in a combat situation and how the war affected their future lives.
We remind you that February 15, 2024 marks the 36th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. This day is important not only for Kazakhstan, but also for the entire world community. The Afghan war, which lasted from 1979 to 1989, became a serious test for many Kazakhstanis. We managed to survive in those difficult conditions thanks to our courage, dedication to our homeland and military brotherhood.
An important part of the meeting was a minute of silence, during which everyone present paid tribute to the memory of those who died and those who are no longer with us.
The lesson of courage has ended, but its meaning will remain in the hearts of the younger generation, reminding of the great truth said by the legendary Bauyrzhan Momysh-uly: "If you enter the fire for your homeland, you will not burn."
